Day 1: Morning Flight to Adiyaman – Mount Nemrut Tour and Return to Istanbul
25 May 2025, 04:45 AM
Your journey begins with an early morning domestic flight from Istanbul to Adiyaman. Upon arrival, you will be welcomed by your guide and transferred to Kahta, the starting point for your ascent to Mount Nemrut. As you drive through the breathtaking Anatolian landscape, you will gradually ascend to the summit, located at an elevation of 2,150 meters. At the top of the mountain, you will explore the archaeological marvels of the Commagene Kingdom, founded by King Antiochus I. The site features colossal stone heads and enthroned statues of ancient gods including Zeus, Apollo, Hercules, and the king himself, beautifully arranged across the East and West terraces. Highlights of the visit include the Fire Altar, the royal Tumulus, and a unique astrological relief thought to be the world’s oldest known horoscope. The panoramic views from the summit, especially under the shifting daylight, are both mystical and awe-inspiring. After exploring Mount Nemrut, you will descend through picturesque villages scattered across the foothills. On the way, visit the ruins of Arsemia, once the summer capital of the Commagene Kingdom, where remnants of a fortress and a sacred handshake relief can be seen. Continue to the Cendere Bridge, a remarkably well-preserved Roman structure built in honor of Emperor Septimius Severus. Your final stop will be the Karakus Tumulus, the burial site of royal women of Commagene, marked by towering columns and a symbolic eagle statue.
